Dr. Shanna Holcomb is a cherished and deeply rooted member of the Greene County community, having been born and raised in the same house her father grew up in, located just a block from Yesterday Café. Together with her husband Randy, also a Greene County native, Dr. Holcomb embodies the essence of local commitment and pride. Their journey began during high school, both graduating from the high school in downtown Greensboro.
Dr. Holcomb pursued higher education at Georgia College and Mercer University before completing her residency at the University of South Carolina. Returning to Milledgeville in 2010, she practiced as an OBGYN until 2014, when she refined her focus to gynecology. “Since 2014, I have honed my focus to gynecology, specifically women’s health during perimenopause and menopause, sexual health, and vaginal/vulvar disorders. I am a NAMS-certified menopause practitioner with dedicated training from ISSWSH, ensuring I stay at the forefront of evidence-based care,” Dr. Holcomb states.
Determined to step outside the constraints of corporate medicine, Dr. Holcomb has embraced a more personalized approach to patient care by breaking ties with insurance companies. "Stepping outside the 'corporate medicine box' allows me to focus on serving the patient, rather than the bottom line," says Dr. Holcomb. Patients can, of course, use their insurance but will be responsible for filing claims themselves. This change enables Dr. Holcomb to address a myriad of health concerns, such as menopause symptoms or breast pain, within a single visit rather than splitting them into multiple appointments. She ensures that patients can still ask for reimbursements from their insurance companies.
Dr. Holcomb's passion for patient care led her to adopt a Direct Patient Care (DPC) model. "I went into medicine to help women, and I still want to help women. That is why I have chosen a direct patient care plan," she explains. The DPC membership offers unlimited visits, certain lab work, bone density scans, vulvoscopies, colposcopies if needed, and biopsies for a monthly fee equivalent to a gym membership; alternatively, patients can opt for a pay-per-visit plan. Dr. Holcomb also facilitates all the necessary paperwork forher patients to independently submit insurance claims, and DPC memberships are available for companies to purchase for their employees.
Dr. Holcomb continues to offer general gynecologic care, menopause care, sexual health, birth control, post-menopausal bleeding management, well-woman exams, and other medical issues. Additionally, she provides specialized services in hormone management, weight loss, skin rejuvenation, microneedling, laser hair removal, migraine treatment, pelvic floor pain solutions, hair restoration, neurotoxins, fillers, stem cell injections, and peptide therapy.
