The Lake Oconee Life Guide to the 2019 Masters Tournament Week | April 8-14 (Updated)
Every spring, the Augusta National Golf Club brings one of the United States’ four most important golf championships to Georgia. Taking part in Masters week started out just as a way for golf fans to watch champions of the sport in person, but has evolved to also become a wonderful week-long vacation that immerses you in Southern hospitality.
Many golf fans choose to make the most of this vacation by staying in the Lake Oconee area, which has an incredible number of great places to dine, shop, get pampered, and—of course—play golf. Find out all that Georgia’s Lake Country has to offer you while you aren’t watching defending champion Patrick Reed compete this April 2019, at the 83rd Masters Tournament.
Short on time, use the links below to jump to any section on our post.
A natural favorite for Masters’ fans, The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee will not only provide you with luxury accommodations, they will also allow you to enjoy championship golf courses, a TaylorMade Performance Lab (one of only eight in the world), a 4-star spa offering a charming selection of golf and water-themed treatments, and transportation to and from Augusta during the tournament.
Renting a private home is another great way to enjoy your stay during the Masters. Many residents make it a tradition to rent out their houses during Master’s Week, and many of these homes offer daily maid service and other by-request house staff, such as a private chef. Whether you just want to make yourself fully at home during your vacation, or you want a space that will work well for guests and corporate events, staying in a private home provides some terrific advantages.
If you aren’t staying somewhere that already provides transportation to and from Augusta each day, you’ll want to arrange for a corporate chauffeured car from a company like RTS Oconee , so you can just sit back and relax while they whisk you from Lake Oconee to Augusta National in a well-appointed limousine.
There are no shortage of fantastic places to shop in the Lake Oconee and surrounding areas. In Greensboro, browse local and house-made jewelry, art, and décor, at Aurum Studios; or fine stationary, local artisan gifts, and home décor at The French Hare. In nearby Eatonton, handmade art and gifts, as well as dry good, general merchandise and art classes and workshops, can be found at 44 Marketplace.
The Oconee Brewing Company will be showing the tournament on the big screen all week, while also offering great craft beer, live music, and on-site food trucks.
For a taste of Lake Country good times, get your mind right with live music, or trivia at Georgia Butts BBQ in Eatonton.
The Yesterday Cafe, downtown Greensboro, your 19th hole. Where you can watch the Masters in their nostalgic fully stocked bar while enjoying Master inspired cocktails like the Azalea or a John Daly. Don’t miss The Yesterday Cafe in downtown Greensboro, your 19th hole!

Watching the best of the best play golf can make you eager to get out your own clubs and play. Luckily Greensboro is an internationally-renowned golfing destination with award-winning courses at all difficulty levels.
Architects Jay Morrish and Tom Weiskopf made the most of the gorgeous water views and rolling lakeside terrain when they created Harbor Club at Lake Oconee in 1991, and Reynolds Lake Oconee has six amazing golf courses on offer—from The Landing, designed by legendary architect Bob Cupp, to Great Waters, a Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course that LINKS Magazine called one of the “10 most significant and influential courses of the past two decades.”
Kathy Daniels of Lake Oconee Real Estate (Algin Realty) understands how easy it is to fall in love with this area while staying here for the Masters, and she’s happy to show available homes to anyone who wants to put down roots in the area. Whether you want a vacation spot within easy reach of Atlanta where you can get away from the hectic pace of city life whenever you want, or you’re looking to create a daily staycation lifestyle by moving into one of Lake Oconee’s award-winning golf communities, Kathy can help you find your dream home here.
When so many in the area have vacation or second homes and they are here to stay during the Masters, it’s natural that when they are not here they will need someone to check their homes on a regular basis looking for issues before they arise. That’s where Castle Home Checks comes in to play.
Using an in-depth checklist and years of experience, Castle Home Checks will look after your home when you can’t, monitoring for potential issues such as water leaks, pest infestations, overseeing maintenance service and carrying out check-up tasks such as flushing water through plumbing and adjusting thermostats seasonally, and then providing you with a tailored home check report with photographs after every visit. They also use GPS-based software program because it offers a range of advantages, such as giving real-time updates on the status of a home. They can even meet your contractors for you, or make sure deliveries get off the front porch and inside the house.
From April 1-19, Castle Home Checks will be giving the first two Home Watch visits free to anyone signing up for their Home Watch service (mention Masters). They understand the needs of the absentee homeowner in the Lake Oconee area, and are ready to give you a whole lot less to worry about this Masters Week and beyond so when you do visit your home away from home you have the time to enjoy everything Georgia’s Lake Country has to offer.
Thanks so much for making this far. We hope that you have a wonderful time celebrating The Master’s here at Lake Oconee, whether you are a local or our guest.
