1. CRAFT BEER FROM OCONEE BREWING COMPANY
We are a house divided when it comes to beer, I am the IPA person and Lynward is more of a Pilsner kinda guy. It really doesn’t matter what your taste, we recommend you get the sampler and try them all. You can’t visit and not try the Three One Thousand Habanero Pale Ale.
2. PLANTATION OLIVE OIL
Sample over 65 varieties of premium olive oils and aged balsamic vinegar’s from around the globe. Enjoy a tasting of your favorite oils with some crusty bread or better yet, ask Larry for the ice cream samples. Yes, you must sample the oils and vinegars over Haggen-Dazs vanilla ice cream to complete your epicurean experience. My daughter Evan’s favorite is the strawberry balsamic vinegar.
3. BLUEBERRY MARTINI AT THE NATIONAL TAVERN
We love these refreshing clean blueberry martinis. Just ask for the Blueberries a la Fred! It’s refreshing and simple, blueberry vodka, blueberries, lemon and just the right amount of agave nectar.
4. THE INFAMOUS BUTTERMILK PIE AT YESTERDAY CAFE
When you think pie at Lake Oconee, you think Buttermilk Pie from Yesterday Cafe. It was not surprising that this pie was voted #1 best pie at Lake Oconee on our website. You will find a mural in downtown Greensboro directing you to this award winning pie.
5. AHI TUNA SALAD AT FILET STEAK & SEAFOOD
The Ahi Tuna Salad is my absolute go to salad at Lake Oconee! This salad is so fresh and light, yet filling. Packed with flavor, you will not find this flavor combination anywhere else. Yummy edamame, roasted red peppers and of course seared rare ahi tuna.
6. THE DENVER BURGER AT CAFE 44
This is Lynward’s absolute favorite burger at Lake Oconee. Sink your teeth in to juicy fresh ground beef on a grilled corn dusted bun with lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, mayo, and the best part is the jalapeno pepper jelly, pepper jack cheese and jalapeno cream cheese. By the way, this burger was voted #1 on Lake Oconee Life. Don’t forget to get a cinnamon roll to go! (You’re welcome)
7. WATERMELON SALAD AT THE DECK AT SAFE HARBOR MARINA
What could be more refreshing on a hot summer day on the lake than a watermelon salad? Fresh watermelon, cucumbers, mint, topped with Feta cheese and a red wine vinaigrette. You won’t find this salad anywhere else at the lake.
8. MANNY’S MARGARITA AT LALORE CAFE
Summer wouldn’t be summer here at Lake Oconee without one of Manny’s amazing made from scratch Margarita’s. No mix here friends!! Oh did I mention, these margarita’s were voted #1 Margarita at Lake oconee? Don’t take my word for it, try them for yourself.
9. CAULIFLOWER CRUST GLUTEN FREE PIZZA AT THE PIZZA PLACE
The Pizza Place was voted Best Pizza at Lake Oconee by the Lake Oconee community! Personally, we try to live a Gluten Free lifestyle and this pizza makes it easy. The gluten free pizzas only come in 10 inch but it is super yummy and filling. We ordered the Italiano, loaded with Italian sausage, mushrooms, red onions, pepperoni and green peppers.
10. THE HOUSE SALAD AT BONE ISLAND GRILLHOUSE
This salad is a classic hit with the locals here at Lake Oconee. BIG is a popular place on the lake and you will often have to wait to grab a seat. There salad dressing is so yummy they sell it by the bottle. Don’t forget to grab a bottle on your way out!
11. THE BEST POTATO SALAD AT GEORGIA BUTTS BBQ
Without a doubt Georgia Butts BBQ has the best potato salad I have ever put in my mouth(sorry Mom). This is our family favorite. Along side the potato salad is the community classic favorite, Bourbon Glazed Chicken Wings. Voted Best Happy Hour at Lake Oconee, I suggest you visit from 3-6 pm.
12. WORLD FAMOUS CHICKEN SALAD AT SWEET KNEADS CAFE
Everyone at Lake Oconee knows when you are craving chicken salad you head to Sweet Kneads Bakery + Cafe. This is 100% a community classic, followed by their amazing quiches, dirt bombs and so much more. While you are here, this is a must place to eat.
13. ANTIQUE SWEETS
You can’t visit Lake Oconee without a trip to Madison’s Antique Sweets. This quaint candy shop still hand makes their confections. Just a few of our family favorites are the truffles, amaretto fudge, the peanut butter cups, pralines and their signature bulldog bites. This is both a local and visitor favorite.
14. STONE GROUND GRITS AT FARMVIEW MARKET
Without a doubt, the very best grits I have ever eaten. Not only can you grab a bowl of grits for breakfast or lunch at Farmview Market but you can purchase yourself a bag from the market and make them at home. We use lots of heavy cream, butter and cheese.
15. BEST BBQ + FRIES AT SISSON’S OLD SOUTH BARBEQUE
Sisson’s Old South Barbeque was voted BEST Barbeque and BEST French Fries at Lake Oconee on our recent contests! They offer five different barbeque sauces to choose from plus they make their own dipping sauce for the fries. We learned that people come there just for the fries. They were yummy! Let us know what you think!
A fun way to sample the food at Lake Oconee is create your own little food tour. Lynward and I planned our own food tour one Saturday, starting at 11:00 am in Greensboro and working our way to Eatonton. You can follow our path or create your own.

Noon: A flight @ Oconee Brewing Company We +1 on our flight and shared.
1:00 pm: Denver Burger @ Cafe 44. We split the burger.
2:00 pm: Blueberry Martinis @ The National Tavern We did NOT share at this stop.
