Cafe 44 Lake Oconee
In April 2023, Chef Lane Raney and his wife, Kirby Raney, became the new owners of Café 44, taking over from the original owners, Bob Gour and Carol Thompson.
Chef Lane graduated with a degree in Urban Planning from the University of Cincinnati in 2010. However, he decided to pursue his passion for cooking professionally after moving to Lake Oconee in 2012. Kirby, on the other hand, is an ICU nurse at Saint Mary's and has a master's degree in nursing to become a family nurse practitioner. The couple got married in 2020 and welcomed their baby boy, August, in the Fall of 2023.
Café 44 prides itself on offering something to suit every customer's taste. In the mornings, patrons can enjoy freshly roasted coffee from Thomasville, Georgia, along with delectable homemade bakery treats. For a quick and delicious lunch, the café offers crisp salads and artisan sandwiches, with their California Club sandwich being recognized as one of the top 100 sandwiches in Georgia. Additionally, Café 44 provides made-to-order breakfast options and offers catering services outside regular hours for a more personalized experience.
Chef Lane and Kirby prioritize exceptional service and ensuring their guests' satisfaction. Café 44 has garnered recognition and accolades for its culinary offerings. It has been featured in Garden and Gun as one of the restaurants to watch in the Lake Oconee area. Furthermore, Explore Georgia, the state's official culinary guide, has selected Café 44 for its list of 100 local favorites in both 2019 and 2020.
