Celebrate the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center’s 50th anniversary with experience and intersection, a special exhibition on display from May 2 through October 31, 2026, in the center’s upstairs galleries.
This compelling exhibition brings together the work of acclaimed artist John Cleaveland and the late Richard Olsen, exploring artistic legacy, mentorship, and lived experience through painting. Olsen, a University of Georgia professor from 1969 to 2001 and a Vietnam veteran, influenced generations of artists with his powerful and evolving visual language. His work often reflected the realities of war while later embracing a more nuanced artistic approach.
Cleaveland, one of Olsen’s former students, is known for his masterful landscape paintings that capture light, mood, and place with remarkable sensitivity and technical skill. Together, their artwork creates a meaningful dialogue that highlights the enduring connection between teacher and student while showcasing two distinct artistic perspectives.

A former Madison resident and self-taught artist, Jones is celebrated for her timeless yet contemporary style, capturing the charm of rural Southern life, scenic landscapes, and treasured memories through vibrant color and rich storytelling. The free opening reception is open to the public and features light refreshments and live music from 6–8 p.m.

The Madison Artists Guild & Gallery presents Scenes from the USA & Europe, a special exhibition featuring the work of Atlanta artist Jim Sutherland, MD, on view from August 28 through October 3, 2026.
The exhibition opens with a free public reception on Friday, August 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. Guests can enjoy an evening of original artwork, food catered by Taco on Main, and live music by MaCayla Hodges. The reception is free and open to the public.
An avid traveler, Sutherland draws inspiration from the landscapes, cities, and people he encounters throughout the United States and Europe. Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, along with oils and watercolors, he creates paintings that capture the light, atmosphere, and character of the places he visits.
Sutherland lives in Atlanta with his wife, Mary, and has balanced a distinguished career as a pediatric cardiologist with his longtime passion for painting. His work reflects his love of travel and his desire to capture scenes and people that resonate with him in an artistic and meaningful way.
Influenced by the spirit of the Impressionists, Sutherland’s paintings celebrate color, light, and a strong sense of place, inviting viewers to experience both familiar and distant destinations through his perspective.

An avid traveler, Sutherland draws inspiration from the landscapes, cities, and people he encounters throughout the United States and Europe. Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, along with oils and watercolors, he creates paintings that capture the light, atmosphere, and character of the places he visits.
Sutherland lives in Atlanta with his wife, Mary, and has balanced a distinguished career as a pediatric cardiologist with his longtime passion for painting. His work reflects his love of travel and his desire to capture scenes and people that resonate with him in an artistic and meaningful way.
Influenced by the spirit of the Impressionists, Sutherland’s paintings celebrate color, light, and a strong sense of place, inviting viewers to experience both familiar and distant destinations through his perspective.

The Madison-Morgan Cultural Center is offering a new six-week Advanced Pastel Mentorship with Ann Dodys, designed for artists who already have experience working in pastel. Rather than following structured demonstrations or step-by-step instruction, participants will work on their own paintings while receiving individualized guidance, constructive critiques, and ongoing encouragement.
Weekly sessions will explore composition, color, values, edges, design, and creative problem-solving as each artist develops their unique artistic voice. The mentorship provides an opportunity to refine techniques, experiment with new ideas, and grow through thoughtful feedback in a collaborative environment with fellow pastel artists.

The exhibition opens with a free public reception on Friday, August 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. Guests can enjoy an evening of original artwork, food catered by Taco on Main, and live music by MaCayla Hodges. The reception is free and open to the public.
An avid traveler, Sutherland draws inspiration from the landscapes, cities, and people he encounters throughout the United States and Europe. Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, along with oils and watercolors, he creates paintings that capture the light, atmosphere, and character of the places he visits.
Sutherland lives in Atlanta with his wife, Mary, and has balanced a distinguished career as a pediatric cardiologist with his longtime passion for painting. His work reflects his love of travel and his desire to capture scenes and people that resonate with him in an artistic and meaningful way.
Influenced by the spirit of the Impressionists, Sutherland’s paintings celebrate color, light, and a strong sense of place, inviting viewers to experience both familiar and distant destinations through his perspective.

This compelling exhibition brings together the work of acclaimed artist John Cleaveland and the late Richard Olsen, exploring artistic legacy, mentorship, and lived experience through painting. Olsen, a University of Georgia professor from 1969 to 2001 and a Vietnam veteran, influenced generations of artists with his powerful and evolving visual language. His work often reflected the realities of war while later embracing a more nuanced artistic approach.
Cleaveland, one of Olsen’s former students, is known for his masterful landscape paintings that capture light, mood, and place with remarkable sensitivity and technical skill. Together, their artwork creates a meaningful dialogue that highlights the enduring connection between teacher and student while showcasing two distinct artistic perspectives.

You Matter Mental Health Awareness Festival
On Saturday, September 26, the inaugural You Matter Mental Health Awareness Festival, presented by BankSouth, will bring together local nonprofits, schools, churches, healthcare providers, recovery organizations, businesses, and residents at Madison’s Town Park for a day centered on hope, healing, education, and connection. The free community event will feature live music, inspiring speakers, survivor stories, food trucks, local vendors, and mental health resources for all ages.
Burris has also been encouraged by the support of her BankSouth family. Several employees are volunteering their time and contributing to the festival through the bank’s $80 for 80 community giving initiative, celebrating BankSouth’s 80th anniversary.
The festival’s mission is simple but powerful: “To shine a light on mental health and suicide awareness because every life matters, every story deserves to be heard, and together, we can build a community where no one suffers in silence.”
Community response has already exceeded expectations, with more than two dozen vendors, nonprofits, businesses, churches, and community organizations committed to participating. Additional vendors continue to join as the event approaches. Sponsors include Spread Love of Georgia, Grace Fellowship Church Madison, Redeemer Church of Madison, and Fusion Church of Madison.

An avid traveler, Sutherland draws inspiration from the landscapes, cities, and people he encounters throughout the United States and Europe. Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, along with oils and watercolors, he creates paintings that capture the light, atmosphere, and character of the places he visits.
Sutherland lives in Atlanta with his wife, Mary, and has balanced a distinguished career as a pediatric cardiologist with his longtime passion for painting. His work reflects his love of travel and his desire to capture scenes and people that resonate with him in an artistic and meaningful way.
Influenced by the spirit of the Impressionists, Sutherland’s paintings celebrate color, light, and a strong sense of place, inviting viewers to experience both familiar and distant destinations through his perspective.

Concert at The Corry House Featuring Scott Deering & The Usual Suspects!
Global Samaritans announces its 15th annual Concert at the Corry House, taking place Friday, October 2nd. This year’s event will once again feature Scott Deering & The Usual Suspects, bringing an evening of great music and entertainment to the beautiful grounds of The Corry House.
Founded in 1997 by Drs. Bo and Ruby Cheves of Greene County, Global Samaritans is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to showing God’s love by enhancing the physical and spiritual well-being of people in Southern Zambia. Its ministry includes a children’s home, secondary school, pastors conference center, and three commercial well-drilling rigs that provide clean water to villages in need.
The evening begins at 5:00 p.m., with dinner served before the concert, which starts at 7:00 p.m. Dinner, desserts, and beverages from Iron Fork Café of Eatonton will be available for purchase, with advance dinner tickets also available online. Guests can also shop handmade Zambian crafts at the Curio Market and participate in the Silent Auction.
