Experience and Intersection

Celebrate the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center’s 50th anniversary with experience and intersection, a special exhibition on display from May 2 through October 31, 2026, in the center’s upstairs galleries.

Olsen, a University of Georgia professor from 1969 to 2001 and a Vietnam veteran, influenced generations of artists with his powerful and evolving visual language. His work often reflected the realities of war while later embracing a more nuanced artistic approach.

Together, their artwork creates a meaningful dialogue that highlights the enduring connection between teacher and student while showcasing two distinct artistic perspectives.

Curated by Andy Hayes, Kamden Ecker, Mitzi Carr, and John Cleaveland, the exhibition celebrates creativity, mentorship, and the lasting impact of art across generations. An opening reception will be held on May 2, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

The exhibition will be on display at the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center, located at 434 South Main Street in Madison, Georgia, and is open to the public. • Google Calendar ICS

Celebrate the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center’s 50th anniversary with experience and intersection, a special exhibition on display from May 2 through October 31, 2026, in the center’s upstairs galleries.

This compelling exhibition brings together the work of acclaimed artist John Cleaveland and the late Richard Olsen, exploring artistic legacy, mentorship, and lived experience through painting. Olsen, a University of Georgia professor from 1969 to 2001 and a Vietnam veteran, influenced generations of artists with his powerful and evolving visual language. His work often reflected the realities of war while later embracing a more nuanced artistic approach.

Cleaveland, one of Olsen’s former students, is known for his masterful landscape paintings that capture light, mood, and place with remarkable sensitivity and technical skill.

Visitors may explore the galleries Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Sunday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, providing plenty of opportunities to experience this inspiring collection celebrating artistic legacy, mentorship, and creativity.

The Shark Is Broken

Audiences are invited to step behind the scenes of one of Hollywood’s most iconic films with The Shark Is Broken, a gripping and entertaining stage play that dives into the turbulent making of Jaws, the world’s first blockbuster.

Set on the open ocean in 1974, filming has been delayed once again. Confined to a too-small boat are three very different actors: seasoned theatre legend Robert Shaw and rising Hollywood stars Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider. At the mercy of foul weather and a malfunctioning mechanical shark, tensions rise as alcohol flows, egos clash, and tempers flare. What unfolds is a raw, humorous, and deeply human look at the chaos, conflict, and unexpected camaraderie that may just lead to cinematic history—if it doesn’t sink them first.

Set aboard the Orca, The Shark Is Broken offers a profound and witty exploration of the choppy waters behind Hollywood’s first blockbuster. Celebrating movie history while revealing the personal struggles behind the camera, this compelling play is a must-see for film lovers, theater enthusiasts, and anyone fascinated by the stories that shape legendary cinema.
