Shrek The Musical Auditions

Auditions open for Shrek the Musical this Summer

Get ready to journey to Far Far Away! Auditions for the hit Broadway show, Shrek the Musical, are now open. Shrek is presented through The Plaza Arts Center and The Arts Barn’s Broadway Intensive Program. This program takes place over two weeks with rehearsals being from 9 am until 5 pm throughout the week. Performers aged 15–30 are invited to join the fun-filled, fairy-tale adventure.

Based on the beloved animated film, Shrek the Musical brings everyone’s favorite ogre to the stage alongside a hilarious cast of fairy-tale characters. The show is packed with high-energy songs, heart, and humor for the whole family.

Auditions are totally virtual. Auditions will consist of three components: singing, acting, and dancing. All components must be included in one continuous video, beginning with a slate.

Slate Requirements: Please introduce yourself, stating your name, age and/or grade, and a brief fun fact or introduction.

Singing: Prepare 30–45 seconds of a song that best showcases your voice. Use accompaniment, an instrumental track, or self-accompaniment. Frame from shoulders up.

Acting: Prepare a 30–60 second monologue. Frame from shoulders up.

Dancing: Learn the provided dance combination at theartsbarn.net. Record yourself using the provided audio or run-through video. Full body must be in frame. Wear clothing and shoes suitable for movement.

Do not edit the video beyond connecting the three sections. Upload your video to YouTube and set it to “Unlisted,” then include the link in your submission. Along with the video, participants need to also submit a resume, headshot, and the audition form found at theartsbarn.net. Auditions are due by March 14.

Shrek the Musical features a wide range of roles making it an excellent opportunity for both seasoned performers and newcomers to the stage. For more information about auditions visit theartsbarn.net or email info@theartsbarn.net. Come be a part of this larger-than-life musical that proves beauty is truly in the eye of the ogre.

The Shark Is Broken

Audiences are invited to step behind the scenes of one of Hollywood’s most iconic films with The Shark Is Broken, a gripping and entertaining stage play that dives into the turbulent making of Jaws, the world’s first blockbuster.

Set on the open ocean in 1974, filming has been delayed once again. Confined to a too-small boat are three very different actors: seasoned theatre legend Robert Shaw and rising Hollywood stars Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider. At the mercy of foul weather and a malfunctioning mechanical shark, tensions rise as alcohol flows, egos clash, and tempers flare. What unfolds is a raw, humorous, and deeply human look at the chaos, conflict, and unexpected camaraderie that may just lead to cinematic history—if it doesn’t sink them first.

Set aboard the Orca, The Shark Is Broken offers a profound and witty exploration of the choppy waters behind Hollywood’s first blockbuster. Celebrating movie history while revealing the personal struggles behind the camera, this compelling play is a must-see for film lovers, theater enthusiasts, and anyone fascinated by the stories that shape legendary cinema.
