Story Craft Across Genres: A Creative Writing Workshop Series
The Steffen Thomas Museum of Art invites writers and aspiring writers ages 18 and up to reserve their spots for Story Craft Across Genres, a creative writing workshop series taught by writer and educator Luke McFarland.
The workshop will meet once a month for 2.5 hours, with each session building upon the previous one. Special guests may also join throughout the series. Author Will Garland will be the featured guest for the January 16, 2027, session, with additional guests to be announced.
The workshop series fee is $150, payable at registration. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.

About the Instructor
Luke McFarland graduated from the University of Georgia, where he was mentored by the late, renowned poet Coleman Barks. He later attended the prestigious University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop. His fiction has appeared online in Variant Literature magazine.
From the pandemic through 2025, McFarland worked on a book-length collection of short stories that reimagined the influential works of Flannery O’Connor during the time of the Spanish Conquest in the Americas. He now focuses on nonfiction exploring his family’s past.
McFarland lives and writes in Monticello, where he teaches theater and English at the high school.
