Sitting quietly off Madison Road, is an often forgotten, humble dwelling. The building peeks out from behind cedar trees, watches cars pass by, and waits for weary travelers to stop in for a rest. Built around 1810, the Tompkins Inn served as a halfway point between Athens and Milledgeville, then Georgia’s capital. The Inn became a focal point for horse racing, fox hunting and political events. Uninhabited for many years now, Rock Eagle 4-H Center brings new life to the Tompkins Inn.
On December 20th, families will take a trip back in time as they tour the Tompkins Inn. Join Rock Eagle educators as they lead pioneer games and activities around the property. Afterwards, guests will gather around a campfire for storytelling, and songs.
Don’t miss out on the opportunity to experience the past, and learn about the future of this historic landmark. Advanced registration is required and cost is $5 per person. Light refreshments will be served.
