Plaza Alliance for the Performing Arts announces auditions for Twelve Angry Jurors
The Plaza Alliance for the Performing Arts (PAPA) announces audition and performance dates for its production of Twelve Angry Jurors by Reginald Rose, who wrote the TV play in 1954. The play was lateradapted for the stage by Sherman Sergel.
Performed on Broadway and as a movie, the play has been a successful and highly acclaimed drama, both for the script and for the intensity of the acting. The play demonstrates the possible difficulties that a case can present to a jury in their deciding of either acquitting or declaring guilt for an accused, especially as it was in the 1950’s. The accused is a youth from a poor urban area who is on trial for first degree murder of his father with a switch blade. The jury’s decision must be unanimous.
Emotions run very high with great levels of tensions. Juror accusations toward each other bring them close to violence right there In the jury room. PAPA performed this play in 2011 to sold out audiences and to great acclaim.
The original script was written for men, but today, theater groups are permitted to update the script to include women, hence the name Jurors, instead of Men in the title. There are six leads, six supporting,and three ensemble roles with a mixture of adult males and females filling these parts.
Play directors are Sarah Daly Weir and Dennis McClain, who will decide which characters will be portrayed by men and which by women after the auditions.
Auditions with be held at The Plaza Arts Center:
Sunday, August 6 at 3 p.m.
Tuesday, August 8 at 7 p.m.
Performance dates are November 9, 10, 12 and 16, 17, 19. Notice that there will be no Saturday performances.
