Madison Artists Guild Gallery kicks off its 2023 special exhibitions season by welcoming internationally acclaimed watercolorist Dana Wiggins Thompson to the gallery.
This exquisite exhibition with broad appeal is titled As I See It and will remain at MAGallery through February 18. All works are for sale. The exhibition is proudly sponsored by Barkin’ Dogs Shoe Co. in Madison.
Raised in Washington County, GA, Dana moved to Dubai, UAE in 1984 at the age of 21. There she learned watercolors from internationally acclaimed watercolorists Jean Haines and Trevor Waugh at the Dubai International Art Centre. Dana made a name for herself in watercolor and photography, and her works sold in high end resorts and The Ritz Carlton of Dubai. In 2003 and 2004, she placed second and first respectively in the UAE Watercolor Plein Air Extravaganza, just before returning to the United States.
Since returning to her home state, Dana has taught at Georgia College in Milledgeville, Oconee Fall Line Technical Schools, and Allied Arts in Milledgeville. She continues to win awards, placing third in Georgia Color Plein Air hosted by Olmsted in Braselton, GA, in October of 2022, first for watercolor professionals at the Georgia National Fair from 2016-2019, and second in the same competition in 2021. In 2022, she won first and second in the professional division of the Georgia National Fair.
In Dana’s words: “What I love about watercolor is the spontaneity and personality the medium holds. Each pigment has its own personality that the artist has to understand . . . I am never bored with watercolors as there is always something new to learn.”
Dana now resides in Baldwin County, is a member of the Georgia Watercolor Society where she is the National Show Chair for 2023, and is active in the Village Artist Guild in Eatonton.
