Casting Call for Neil Simon's 'The Dinner Party'

  • The Plaza Arts Center 305 North Madison Avenue Eatonton, GA, 31024 United States (map)

PAPA, the Plaza Alliance for the Performing Arts is hosting open auditions for their upcoming

performances of Neil Simon’s ‘The Dinner Party’ Sept. 1 & 2 from 7-9 p.m. at The Plaza Arts

Center. This is the perfect opportunity to get involved with your local theater.

The casting calls for three males and three females.

Playwright Neil Simon, himself married five times, mines his own experience to create the

thematic material for this unique play. Six unknowing guests have RSVP'd to a dinner at a

private dining room at a restaurant in Paris. Arriving in a staggered manner, they eventually

realize they are three divorced couples. Five of them were mistaken into thinking a man they

hold in high regard, who happens to be the divorce lawyer, is hosting the party, but he never

shows up, and appearances prove to be deceiving. After the shock wears off, the characters

inevitably begin to analyze and emotionally process their past marriages, and the play ends on

a hopeful note.

The Plaza Alliance for the Performing Arts (PAPA) was founded as a non-profit organization in

1978 by a small number of Putnam County residents to establish performance opportunities for

local interests and talents. PAPA produced its first play in 1978, and since that time has

produced dozens of plays (a total of 69) in several different venues until the opening of The

Plaza Arts Center in 2008. In that year, PAPA came under the umbrella of The Plaza Arts Center.

All PAPA productions are done by volunteers and are open for participation to anyone in the

area. Plays are cast by each play's designated director(s) and according to play characters'

genders, ages, and types.
