Holiday gifting — there’s so much to consider! With Amazon and countless other online procurement options at our literal fingertips, we’re all-but inundated with choices. So how should we choose? We have found that, second to making them ourselves, our most meaningful and satisfying way to give gifts, is to find those one-of-a-kind items that have come from local makers. Here are some considerations to ponder when shopping for gifts.
.
Whom are you supporting with your purchase? Is your money going to a family or individual who actually produced this gift? Will the money you spend on this gift remain in your local economy or travel elsewhere? And into whose hands?
.
How are the ingredients/parts sourced or produced? Were the plants grown in a manner that builds ecological health? Were the laborers who produced this gift treated ethically, paid fairly, and respected as human beings?
.
How is the quality of this gift? Are the ingredients or components contributors to the healthy enrichment of the person you’re planning to give this gift to, or do they include toxic or otherwise harsh chemicals that you wouldn’t want to pass along?
.
Are you using your dollar to vote for the success of a local business? What’s the overall, holistic impact of gifting this item?
.
On Sunday, December 18th, we’ll be partnering with Chef Brian Wolfe to host a holiday market, here at the farm. We’ll host an array of high-integrity producers, who will be here with their own high-quality, handmade gifts for sale. You’ll be able to ask the folks you’re buying from these very questions. We’ll only offer gifts from producers we respect and trust, and whose values align with ours in regards to responsible business practices.
