Mala Making Workshop with Debbie and Renee

  • Exhale Lake Oconee 921 Harmony Road Eatonton, GA, 31024 United States (map)

Join Debbie and Renee for a Mala making workshop. This workshop includes all materials, a group flow, making the necklace with intention, seated meditation and an incredible unique experience! Mala is a Sanskrit term meaning "meditation garland." The Mala is a string of 108 beads. The 109th bead is called a guru bead and symbolizes gratitude and connection to the divine.

A mala is a string of 108 beads with one bead as the summit or head bead called a 'sumeru. ' Malas are used as a tool to help the mind focus on meditation, or count mantras in sets of 108 repetitions.

Begin your workshop with a Gentle Flow to tune into your body. Let go of what doesn’t serve you so you can find and set your intention. Begin making your Mala breathing in your intention into every bead and then finish with a meditation using your beautiful necklace.

Malas are used for keeping count while reciting, chanting, or mentally repeating a mantra. This sādhanā (practice) is known in Sanskrit as japa. Malas are typically made with 18, 27, 54 or 108 beads.
