"Through Thick & Thin" Special Exhibition // Sale By Painter Dana Reese

The Madison Artists Guild invites the public to its next Special Exhibition opening on Friday, July 15 from 6 – 8 PM to celebrate the talent of Atlanta artist Dana Reese. Please join us for refreshments and conversation in the galleries along with the opportunity to meet and speak with Ms. Reese about her work.

Through Thick and Thin will remain at MAGallery through August 13, and all works are for sale. The exhibition may also be viewed at MAG Online. MAGallery is located at 125 W. Jefferson St., Madison and is open Tuesday through Saturday 11 AM – 5 PM.

Working mostly from memory and inspired by an idyllic S. Georgia childhood enriched with family and endless days spent roaming farms and ponds, Ms. Reese’s work evolves intuitively. Applying big brush strokes of acrylic paint in thick and thin layers, with ink and charcoal for added interest and detail, Dana creates heavily textured works in a “painterly” style. The artist considers her work a mixture of folk, impressionism, expressive and whimsical styles.

Born to a creative family but never receiving formal art training, Dana started painting in 2013 as the result of a family fishing excursion. Paintings of fish, cotton, churches, angels and barns – her earliest subjects – now share gallery exhibition space with farm pets, southern flowers, lakes and cotton fields.

In addition to these favorite southern subjects, Through Thick and Thin includes her newest series of work that rose organically as she painted and reminisced about days in her Aunt Grace’s greenhouse. “I hope my stories come through so the viewer can relate and their own memories be sparked. I also hope to inspire others to tell their own stories in their own creative way.”

Through Thick and Thin is one of MAGallery’s eleven special exhibitions for 2022 that showcases original artwork of emerging and established artists from outside the local community.

MAGallery, a retail art gallery supporting over twenty local artists and eight authors, is operated by Madison Artists Guild, a nonprofit dedicated to education and the encouragement of artistic endeavor in its members and the community through outreach programs, classes, workshops and social gatherings.
